UBC Orlando
Over the two years, I’ve tried a number of different things in an attempt to get in shape and lose excess weight. I’ve tried going to the gym, using workout videos, and changing my eating habits. I managed to lose about 30 lbs in my attempts, however over time the weight slowly started to come back. I began to realize the things I did were only temporary fixes. It was hard for me to stick with any routine, whether it was working out or eating. By the time I joined UBC, I had gain back 20 of the 30 lbs I had originally lost. Needless to say I didn’t feel very good about myself. UBC helped me to get structure not only in my workout routine but in the way I eat.
The staff made working out fun and engaging. There were times when I walked into the building feeling tired and overwhelmed. However, after the workout I felt energized and motivated. Although the workouts were difficult in the beginning, the support I received from the staff helped me to stay focus on my goals. I can’t remember ever doing a pushup, however by week 5, I was able to do 47 modified push ups. I kept pushing myself harder and now I’m able to do the regular pushups. The continuous positive reinforcement was very rewarding. Unlike going to a regular gym, the staff greets you with a smile and by name from the first day you walk in the door. This is something you don’t find in many places.
The nutrition guide was easy to follow. I knew exactly what I should be eating and the things I should avoid. As I analyzed my eating habits, I realized my problem was not portion control. My problem was in the food choices. The amazing part is that I still get to eat some of my favorite things. The biggest difference is I make the better choice, focusing on low-calorie, low-fat options of the same food. It’s amazing the kinds of results you get by eating the better versions of the foods you enjoy. UBC helped me gain the knowledge I needed to make better decisions.
Overall, my experience with UBC was very positive. The last time I checked I lost close to 15 lbs. However, my biggest success has been in the inches I lost. I’m now 2 pant sizes smaller, which is huge coming from someone who’s always struggled with sliming down the lower body! My husband joined the program with me as a means to help support me toward my goals. Now, we both have seen positive results with the program. We encourage each other, following the examples provided by the UBC staff. I’m very excited about the results I’ve achieved so far and feel UBC has helped me set a good foundation for healthy living going forward.
