Orlando – UBC #2

Being at least 75 pounds overweight, my cholesterol and triglycerides had climbed to over 325 and my extremely high blood pressure levels all led to serious concerns about my health.  My outlook on life was dim, contributing much to my feeling of being hopelessly stuck in a pit.  I knew I needed to make a permanent lifestyle change or be headed to soaring expenses for medical attention.  Each of these factors contributed to my desire and motivation for change.  At the age of 51, I finally decided to take control of my health.

I discovered UBC through the Weight-Loss Challenge blog of a local newspaper.  Many on the blog were talking about their commitment to UBC for 10 weeks.  After pondering it for a few days, my husband and I went to observe an early morning class at Wah Lum Kung Fu & Tai Chi in Orlando, Florida.  Sifu George Kee led a motivating and energizing class.  Maybe it could help... just a little. Certainly, it was worth a try!

My husband and I went faithfully each morning at 6:30 am; actually, we never missed a day!  Our friends were amazed of the changes that they could visibly testify.  After 10 weeks, I dropped 31 ½ pounds, 5.2% body fat, and 7 ½ inches from my waist.  I am stronger, have more endurance, and am continuing to stay motivated to make exercise and healthy eating part of my life.  My cholesterol has dropped to 91 and triglycerides are down to 50!  Amazing!  My cardiologist told me to “keep doing whatever you have been doing, because it’s working!”  Best of all, I have my life back.

My husband and I would highly recommend the UBC course for couples.  We hadn’t ever taken an exercise class together.  At times, it was quite humorous to watch the two of us.  We would walk around the house saying to each other, “jab, cross, back to guard.”  Our young adult children thought we were crazy.  We are crazy… about each other… and UBC gave us a new outlet to be together.

I am grateful to George, Isabel, Rachael, and Michele at UBC Orlando for helping to motivate me towards my ultimate fitness goal.  They have become like family!
